Support for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 - Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 support enables vWorkspace customers to further reduce the cost of desktop virtualization by leveraging R2’s new deduplication functionality paired with improved vWorkspace HyperCache.

Support for Lync 2013 with Lync VDI plug-in – vWorkspace 8.0 MR1 supports Microsoft Lync 2013 with the Lync 2013 VDI plug-in.  This enables users to experience high-quality peer-to-peer audio and video – as if running Lync locally.

Enhancements to integrated monitoring, diagnostics and reporting – now included with both vWorkspace Premier and vWorkspace Desktop editions:

  • Improved vWorkspace connection broker monitoring enables faster identification of bottlenecks
  • Improved Hyper-V monitoring provides insight into IOPS savings statistics by HyperCache, disk savings statistics by HyperDeploy and more.
  • Tighter console integration provides administrators with easier navigation.

Linux VDI support – vWorkspace 8.0 MR1 offers support for Linux virtual desktop functions including provisioning, power management, and brokering.

App-V 5.0 support – enables organizations to use vWorkspace to deploy and manage applications using the latest version of Microsoft’s application virtualization/streaming technology.

Seamless application toolbar – provides a better user experience on tablets and smartphones. A published application tool bar makes it easier to toggle between multiple Windows applications as well as locate applications that have been minimized.  This new capability is available for iPad/iPhone and Android tablets/smartphones as well as Mac and Linux operating systems.

Allow customers to easily monitor the user experience and resolve possible issues quickly. A new view in the Management Console presents relevant data pertaining to the user experience and other context-aware vWorkspace information in a single view. Customers can view metrics in real time, as well as from past sessions.

Secure Gateway usability improvements – provides easier set up and improved BYOD support.

Foglight for Virtual Desktops integration

Simplify administration from a single pane of glass with the powerful diagnostics rich visualization, and reporting capabilities of Foglight for Virtual Desktops. Now integrated with the vWorkspace Management Console, it offers additional and more advanced reports. The Foglight for Virtual Desktops role is now available in both the Simple and Advanced install.

Multi-tenancy

Drive down your cost of desktop virtualization by reducing the infrastructure and administrative efforts of complex vWorkspace deployments spanning multiple domains (e.g., DaaS).

vWorkspace lets you support farms consisting of multiple domains and forests, without the need for:

  • trusts to be in place between the different domains and/or forests
  • a Connection Broker in each domain all from the single vWorkspace Management Console

For example, you can allow customers to (across all domains):

  • provision and manage virtual desktops and RD Session Hosts
  • manage user sessions, assign vWorkspace resources
  • create advanced targets, manage user profiles
  • assign applications

Anonymous user support

Enable customers to assign vWorkspace resources anonymously, removing the need for authentication before a user can use a vWorkspace resource (e.g., a Managed Application). You gain greater flexibility in environments where shared workstations are common (e.g., healthcare or education).

Quest Password Manager integration

Empower customers to use the rich feature set of Quest Password Manager for their password management requirements, with integration points in vWorkspace Web Access and the vWorkspace Windows Connector.

EOP Flash Acceleration improvements

Ensure the best possible user experience. EOP Flash Acceleration automatically adapts based on the network characteristics, working together with RemoteFX (RDP8). It does so by falling back to server-side RemoteFX rendering on a compatible server if the latency is too high for EOP Flash Acceleration to operate effectively. This behavior is configurable. In addition, EOP Flash Acceleration has been enhanced for faster response times and support even more sites out of the box.

Additional RD Session Host logon security

Allow customers to add an extra layer of security.  vWorkspace automatically adds a user to the Remote Desktop users group when they are successfully authenticated by the vWorkspace Connection broker for a RD Session Host. Access to a RD Session Host is only allowed if a user is successfully authenticated by the vWorkspace Connection Broker. Administrators (and other users that have been manually configured to be a member of the Remote Desktop Users group) are exempt from this behavior.

Direct console access from Management Console

Let administrators directly connect to a virtual desktop or RD Session Host using RDP, the Hyper-V Console or the VMware console directly from the vWorkspace Management Console. This is ideal for troubleshooting environments where RDP connectivity is unavailable or a machine is experiencing boot issues.

Advanced domain management

Customers can more accurately manage the domain name to be used in a vWorkspace farm. The domain field in vWorkspace connections can be automatically populated and hidden in the vWorkspace Windows Connector. Additionally, the domain can be pre-configured via config.xml, allowing customers to prevent logons to the wrong domain, improving security and reducing the complexity of logons for their end users.

vWorkspace eDocumentation

vWorkspace eDocumentation is easier to read and navigate (online or on mobile devices), and provides access to all technical documentation at a glance. All vWorkspace documentation is available online in an edoc format, giving customers direct access to online documentation from the support portal ( including from search engines) and offering context-aware help suggestions (e.g., KB, Community, Videos, etc.).

Failed logon protection

Prevent recurring logon problems for problematic virtual desktops. Now, virtual desktops that are unable to log a user on successfully (on three consecutive attempts by default) will automatically be marked as unavailable and marked for administrative inspection.

vWorkspace Diagnostics

Let customers easily collect all relevant vWorkspace logs and compress them into a zip file for easy transport.

Pre-connection message in vWorkspace Windows Connector

Give customers an ideal method to display corporate disclaimers or other important messages. Customers can configure and customize a message that will display and has to be acknowledged in the vWorkspace Windows Connector before establishing a connection to a virtual desktop or Managed Application.

Two-Factor Authentication enhancements

Web Access Two-Factor Authentication has been updated to support:

  • Load balancing and failover of RADIUS servers
  • A separate configurable OTP (passcode) field
  • An OTP (passcode) length of 0
  • Two (sequential) OTP (passcode) prompts if the RADIUS server requires it (challenge/response)

Configurable Web Access timeout warning

Prompt users with a timeout warning to either log off or continue their session in Web Access. Failure to reply will automatically log the user off.
