Hi, and welcome. This video will cover granular item-level migrations in Migration Suite for SharePoint. Specifically speaking, we're going to be looking at how we filter items or documents that we want to migrate over to a SharePoint target.
Now the SharePoint version is irrelevant. We could be looking at SharePoint 2003, 2007, 2010 or Office 365 going same version or across version, obviously to a newer release of SharePoint.
The way to do so is basically connect to your site. After you connect to the site, navigate over to your document library or to your list. You will notice on the top right-hand side, you have the ability to change your views. These are your native views in SharePoint. So this document library has All Documents View and then, obviously, Explorer View. If you've built your own, you'll see them in here.
And then on top of that, there is the filtering icon. So this is what we're going to be looking at to filter items that we want to migrate across. Everything in here has a document content type. If you have multiple content types, you can actually filter by the content type. Or you'll see the different filters for the different content types as well.
So you can filter by anything. I can come in here and say, well, maybe I only want to read the Word documents across. So we'll say Name Contains. And we'll say a .doc. And then we'll say Filter. This goes out and filters only the documents.
Or we can filter by content type. We can filter by created. We can filter by the size of the document. The modification dates, a great way of us to carry across what we want to carry across into the newer platform or to the newer SharePoint version. So we can say only content that have been modified after a specific date. Or modified by a specific individual.
So this is how we filter content. Let's go back and say let's just grab all documents. Filter. We'll highlight everything. We'll right-click. We'll copy it. And then we'll go to a SharePoint target. We'll right-click on the target. And then we'll paste.
Or-- I'm going to cancel out-- you could just simply drag them and drop them. And then we'll say Next. We will get this content type remapping option as well.
These are documents. We're going to be migrating them over as documents. But if you want to migrate them over as a different content type and you already have that custom content type or that other content type on the target, it will appear here in the drop-down.
My example here, I've got user guides and documents. I'm going to migrate over to documents. So these are the columns for that specific content type. I'll select Next. Take the defaults in here. Select Next.
I do get some options to choose from, whether I want to delete the items from the source, overwrite if the file exists, remove the folder structure if I did have a folder structure, along with other options in here. And we'll go ahead and click on Finish.
So what we went through is basically filtering of items based on the extension or the name of the document. And that's how we ran the migration. You can obviously filter by anything else you saw on the screen. This concludes this video. Thanks for listening in.
